LOCATIONS – ARCTIC CIRCLE
Imagine skiing a first descent in powder conditions at 9pm, all the way to the ocean shore. It’s possible in Iceland, where a stable snowpack extends ski season into June and where heli-skiing is still being pioneered. More than 30 possible landing zones are visible from the window at Deplar Farm, Eleven’s luxury lodge built on a former sheep farm turned luxury lodge where we base our Iceland adventures. The lodge in the Northwest corner of the country is surrounded by 3,000-foot (1,000m) peaks and relatively unexplored terrain. Beyond the novelty of skiing in Iceland, the mountains offer steep skiing, couloirs from flat-top buttes and scenery you won’t find anywhere else in the world—think craters, colorful fishing villages and ocean views. Plus, the locals are kind and welcoming.
